About FD Design

Architecture shaped by the Fourth Dimension

A New Delhi-based practice founded in 2000, FD Design creates spaces that are experienced through time — not merely observed in photographs.

FD Design was founded on a single conviction: that architecture must account for more than just three dimensions.

Ar. Vaishali Sharma and Ar. Raghu Sharma established the practice after training at two of India’s most respected architecture schools. Over the past 25 years, they have built a firm that works across every scale — from private residences to destination hospitality — without compromising the depth of thought each project receives.

Our Philosophy

The Fourth Dimension

Space is not a fixed object. It is something experienced through movement, light, weather, and time — and it is within that experience that architecture either succeeds or fails.

The concept of the Fourth Dimension originated during the academic years of Ar. Vaishali Sharma and Ar. Raghu Sharma — a framework developed through their dissertation work that later became the philosophical foundation of FD Design. Conventional architecture works within three dimensions: length, width, and height. FD Design introduces a fourth — the dimension of time, occupation, and lived human experience.

This is why the firm’s work tends to age gracefully. Spaces designed with the Fourth Dimension in mind are not optimised merely for the moment of completion; they are designed for the years, decades, and sometimes generations that follow. Materials are selected for how they will weather over time. Landscapes are planned for how they will evolve. Interiors are organised around the natural rhythms of daily life and movement.

The philosophy also defines the firm’s relationship with nature. Water, landscape, and light are not decorative elements in FD Design’s work — they are structural components of the architecture itself. A water feature is not simply an amenity; it becomes a calibrator of temperature, sound, and mood. A garden court is not merely a luxury; it acts as a mediator between inside and outside, between the built and the natural, between solitude and gathering.

What We Stand For

Six principles that guide every project

These are not marketing statements. They are the working principles that shape how FD Design approaches every commission — from the first site visit to the final walkthrough.

The Fourth Dimension

Every space is designed not only for how it looks at the moment of completion, but for how it will be experienced through years of daily inhabitation. Time is the fourth dimension we always design for.

Context Before Concept

We do not apply a predetermined house style. Every project begins with a careful reading of its site, climate, culture, and client. What belongs here? What does this land want to become? The brief emerges from the site itself.

Nature as Structure

Water, landscape, and light are treated as structural elements of design — integrated from the very first sketch, not added at the end. In FD Design’s work, a garden court is architecture, not an amenity.

Full Accountability

The same team that designs a project sees it through to completion. From concept development and construction supervision to post-occupancy review — one team, one point of responsibility, and no handoffs.

Craftsmanship Over Trend

Fashion in architecture is short-lived. We choose materials and details that age gracefully — elements that improve through occupation and become more meaningful over time, rather than less.

Design Begins With Listening

The best spaces are not designed merely for clients — they are designed with them. Every commission begins with a genuine effort to understand not only what clients want, but also how they truly live.

What We Stand For

A practice that works at every scale

Residential & Interiors

Private homes, luxury residences, and bespoke interiors — designed around how each family truly lives, rather than how homes are merely expected to appear.

Commercial & Industrial

Workplaces, retail environments, and industrial facilities where function and design are resolved together — never treated as compromises against one another.

Estate & Farm Living

Large-format private estates where architecture and landscape are conceived to grow together over time — across seasons, years, and generations.

Hospitality Design

Hotels, restaurants, spas, and experiential dining environments — designed around the guest journey, from arrival to lasting memory.

Hospitality Development

Development strategy and consulting for hospitality-led projects — aligning land, capital, brand, and design into coherent and executable opportunities.

Exhibitions & Experiential

Installations and experiential spaces that express the Fourth Dimension philosophy most directly — designed to be experienced through movement, emotion, and memory.
